Returns, Disputes & Liability Policy

Last Updated: 05/27/2026

Second Catch operates as a peer-to-peer marketplace that connects independent buyers and sellers. Second Catch does not own, inspect, store, or handle listed items and does not guarantee item condition, performance, or safety. All transactions are governed by the terms below.

Marketplace Role & Item Ownership

  • All items listed on Second Catch are owned and sold by independent sellers
  • Second Catch does not take possession of items at any point
  • Sellers are solely responsible for:
  • The accuracy of their listings
  • The condition of their items
  • Fulfilling their obligations to buyers

Second Catch acts only as a neutral payment processor and dispute mediator when necessary.

All Sales Are Final

All sales on Second Catch are final. Items are sold as-is and as described in the listing. Returns are not accepted for:

  • Buyer remorse
  • Change of mind
  • Fit, feel, or personal preference
  • Normal wear
  • Performance issues
  • Breakage or failure after delivery
  • Damage caused after receipt
  • Improper use or handling

When a Return or Refund Is Allowed

A buyer may only request a refund if one of the following applies:

  • Item Not Received
  • Item Arrived Damaged Due to Shipping
  • Item Is Materially Not as Described in the Listing

A “material difference” means the item significantly differs from the listing description or photos (e.g., undisclosed damage, incorrect model, missing major components).

72-Hour Dispute Window

Buyers have 72 hours from delivery to:

  • Rate the seller
  • Open a dispute case

Funds settle to the seller’s connected Stripe account once Stripe completes processing, in accordance with the Payouts & Fees Policy. If a dispute is opened within the 72-hour window and resolved in the buyer’s favor, funds will be debited from the seller’s Stripe account to refund the buyer. Disputes submitted after 72 hours will not be accepted, except as described under “Counterfeit, Stolen, or Prohibited Items” below. To open a dispute, email support@secondcatch.com within the 72-hour window with your order number and a description of the issue.

Card-Issuer Chargebacks

Separately from Second Catch’s internal dispute process, buyers may file a chargeback with their card issuer or bank. Card networks typically allow chargebacks for up to 120 days after a transaction. Second Catch does not control this process. If a chargeback is filed and decided in the buyer’s favor, the seller remains financially responsible for the refunded amount and any associated chargeback fees, even if the 72-hour internal dispute window has already closed.

Dispute Requirements

To open a dispute, the buyer must submit within the 72-hour window:

  • A written explanation of the issue
  • Clear photos showing:
  • The item received
  • The alleged damage or discrepancy
  • Packaging (if damage occurred during shipping)

Failure to provide sufficient evidence may result in the dispute being denied.

Dispute Review & Resolution

Second Catch reviews disputes by:

  • Comparing the original listing photos and description
  • Reviewing buyer-submitted photos and explanation
  • Contacting the seller and providing them an opportunity to respond and submit their own evidence

Second Catch will not withdraw funds from the seller’s connected Stripe account without first contacting the seller and giving them an opportunity to respond. Second Catch will issue a final decision within 5 business days of receiving the dispute.

If the buyer wins:

  • The buyer receives a refund
  • The seller bears the financial loss

If the seller wins:

  • Funds remain with the seller
  • The transaction is finalized

All dispute decisions made by Second Catch are final.

Return Shipping for “Materially Not as Described” Disputes

If a buyer wins a “materially not as described” dispute, the item must be returned to the seller before the refund is finalized. Second Catch will issue a prepaid return shipping label to the buyer at no cost to the buyer or the seller. Return shipping costs are covered by Second Catch. What qualifies as “materially not as described”:

  • Wrong model, brand, or size compared to the listing
  • Undisclosed damage affecting function (cracks, broken parts, corrosion, drag or bail issues on a reel, blank damage on a rod)
  • Counterfeit items listed as authentic
  • Significantly worse condition than represented in the listing
  • Missing components specifically described as included in the listing
  • Non-functional items where the listing implied working condition

What does not qualify:

  • Cosmetic differences within reason (lighting in photos, minor color variation)
  • Normal wear consistent with the listed condition
  • Buyer’s subjective preferences (feel, weight, action, fit)
  • Minor measurement variances
  • Performance issues only apparent after use

Return process:

  • Second Catch will email the buyer a prepaid return shipping label within 1 business day of the dispute being resolved in their favor
  • The buyer must ship the item back within 7 days of receiving the label, using the provided label and with tracking
  • The item must be returned in the same condition it was received, with all original components included
  • The refund is finalized once the seller confirms receipt or the carrier confirms delivery, whichever occurs first
  • If the buyer fails to ship the item back within 7 days, the dispute resolution is reversed and funds are released to the seller
  • If the seller receives the item in worse condition than it was delivered to the buyer, the seller may submit a counter-claim within 3 days of delivery, and Second Catch will review the claim under the standard dispute review process

Counterfeit, Stolen, or Prohibited Items

If an item is determined to be counterfeit, stolen, or otherwise prohibited under Second Catch’s listing policies, the buyer is entitled to a full refund regardless of the 72-hour dispute window. Sellers who list such items may also be subject to account suspension and forfeiture of funds.

Seller Responsibility & Accuracy

Sellers are fully responsible for:

  • Accurately representing item condition
  • Disclosing defects, damage, or wear
  • Using truthful photos and descriptions

If a seller misrepresents an item:

  • The seller assumes all financial responsibility
  • Second Catch is not required to inspect or verify items

This policy exists to protect honest sellers and buyers while maintaining a fair marketplace.

No Performance or Breakage Coverage

Second Catch does not guarantee:

  • Performance
  • Durability
  • Safety
  • Fitness for a particular purpose

No refunds or disputes will be approved for:

  • Performance dissatisfaction
  • Gear failure after delivery
  • Damage caused during use

Liability Disclaimer

Second Catch is not liable for:

  • Personal injury
  • Property damage
  • Loss or theft
  • Safety incidents
  • Improper use of any item

By purchasing on Second Catch, buyers accept all risks associated with the use of secondhand gear.
